The UT Arboretum Society will present a lecture on fireflies on Saturday, May 27th, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the UT Arboretum Auditorium. Please note: the subject of this program is not synchronous fireflies. Robbie Meyer of the National Park Service will conduct the program, “The Mysterious World of Lightning Bugs.” He invites everyone to join him for this program on one of nature’s brightest insects, the firefly. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a talk about the life cycle of fireflies and what makes them so fascinating. After the sun begins to set, we will move outside to view and attempt to catch some fireflies and observe them. You are welcome to bring something to use to catch the fireflies, but please keep in mind all fireflies will be released at the end of the program. Participants are welcome to bring a flashlight but are asked to keep it turned off during the program. A flashlight with a red light filter option is recommended. The UT Arboretum is located at 901 S. Illinois Avenue in Oak Ridge. A donation of $5 per carload is asked, and we welcome additional donations to help support the UT Arboretum Society and its programs.
